Introduction

Image 1: Creative Work

Whilst I have not completed any art or design work before the start of this course, my best piece of creative composition would be an original musical composition I made from scratch for my Music Extension class in Year 12. This task was done as a major work for the HSC as a Composition Elective. The composition shows a variety of techniques being used and has various moods being evoked; thus showing creativity in its own form. It is a distinctive method of portraying modern, semi-classical and semi-Impressionist music. Though this subject is quite unrelated to Built Environment and Architecture, it is significant to me as it shows how an idea can be transformed into a well-sounding work.

Image 2: Great Architecture

The Taj Mahal of India is an incredible and distinctive structure which strongly appeals to me. It has a balanced and simplistic exterior look - but in fact, the whole structure has a complex design. Along with its cultural importance (a mausoleum), this is why the building is so famous today. The fact that the building is still standing regal and tall even after 400 years stresses the fact of how good architecture leads to lasting results. An interesting fact about this is that the changing moods of the Emperor's wife (builder) are well captured by the changing hues of the Mausoleum at different times of the day. It takes a pinkish hue in the morning, a milky white in the evening and a golden hue at night when illuminated by moonlight. It is this changing look - even though the building is unchanging - that shows how beautiful and unique this architecture is.

Image 3: Original Photograph

Below is an original photograph of a mock Eiffel Tower in Macau, China. It is part of the luxury hotel, 'The Parisian (of Macau)' which I stayed in on my holiday to China for one night. Though much smaller than the real Eiffel Tower in London, this structure's dazzling lights have transformed it into a colourful, bright and radiating building. In fact, the whole city is more lively at night with its lights and unending nightlife. This structure shows how the influence of architecture can be reproduced and create a much different vibe despite it being the same building -- the London Eiffel Tower gives off a different mood. It elicits the beauty of modern architecture and the technology which has been able to construct this.
